Artist’s Statement

My paintings are derived from the observation of natural outdoor spaces.
Initial work is created from plein air oil or watercolor studies or simply from memory of a particular area.

The challenge is to bring the presence of nature into an interior space.
I am intrigued with the various materials I use: wax and oil paint; and the different surfaces to which I apply     the mediums.
Each has its own unique visual characteristics.
I continue to look for new perspectives to work with in the natural world.
